Pataniscas cod pancakes? Hell yes!

Cod pancakes? Hell yes! Pataniscas is the name of a crispy cod fritter that is tasty goodness.

Pataniscas are made from pieces of shredded salt cod fried in wheat flour, seasoned with salt, pepper and parsley. They have an irregularly flattened or spherical shape. They hail from the Extremadura around Lisbon.

In the Porto area, they are known simply iscas de bacalhau, it is actually a different dish made of a fillet of fresh cod mixed with flour and egg and fried potatoes.

They are often accompanied by red bean rice or tomato rice,  or in a sandwich.
