Red Bull Cliff Diving returns to the Azores
June 17, 2013
The world's best cliff divers will be landing in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on June 29 for the third stop in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2013.
Set in the breathtaking and unique location of an Isle off of Vila Franca do Campo on São Miguel Island, this challenging stopover will truly test the mettle of the skilled competitors.
This impressive monolith of volcanic stone and the outside crater walls of the circular-shaped islet less than 0.6 miles from the coastline of São Miguel are the perfect spots to explore this pure sport and dive straight from the cliffs once again in 2013, after a first ever visit in 2012.
Visitors can take a small ferryboat to the island from the Marina at Vila Franca do Campo and it costs just a few Euros to go there and back. Islet of Vila Franca is a protected natural reserve and is a great place to visit during the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2013 but also to enjoy some time swimming and snorkeling all year round. Even in winter months, temperatures are rarely lower than 61º F.
