Azores: Aveiro Cascade – Santa Maria Island
November 19, 2013
The Aveiro Cascade, on the southeast cost of Santa Maria Island, is considered one of the most beautiful spots on the island. Located in Maia, the Cascade is 328 ft. high, and its falling water has caused interesting erosion to the surrounding circular cliffs as the water falls vertically. The cliff features volcanic patterns consisting of several "pillow" lava series at the top of the Pico Alto area.
The route along the beautiful and crystalline Aveiro Riverside has views of beautiful landscapes leading up to this beautiful Cascade that creates a series of adjacent lakes.
To better appreciate all this natural beauty, you can hike the trails and discover the beautiful charm of this island.
