Eusébio - Rest in Peace, and Thank You
January 05, 2014
Eusébio da Silva Ferreira (1942 – 2014) was one of the greatest soccer players ever – having scored 733 goals in 745 games. He passed away on January 5, 2014. He was a Portuguese national hero.
Called the Black Panther – Eusébio was a star on Benfica for many years scoring more than 630 goals for the team in just over 600 games. But Eusébio earned a place in Portuguese history in the 1966 World Cup –scoring nine goals and leading the team to its best ever performance with 3rd place. The Portuguese government has decreed three days of national mourning, with all national flags flying at half-mast.
