The NRP Sagres is the pride of the Portuguese Navy, and a sailing school and ambassador since 1961. The Sagres is a three masted barque, whose main mast rises 42 m above the deck. She boasts 22 sails totaling 21,000 ft² and can reach a top speed of 17 knots  under sail. she started a German ship, launched in 1937, as was her sister ship, the US Coast Guard's USCGC Eagle. Today she sails the world, participating in tall ships events, and spreading good will for Portugal.
