This is the first 5-star hotel near Alqueva Lake

The Alentejo is a warm, dry region, south of the River Tejo and north of the Algarve, that has seen a 44% jump in American visitors last year. Its wines and cuisine are to die for. Now, there’s another reason to visit the region, there is a new and the very first 5-star hotel near de amazing medieval village of Monsaraz: The “São Lourenço do Barrocal”.

The first 5-star hotel in the area of Reguengos de Monsaraz, in Alqueva, opened in March. The new hotel offers 40 rooms (22 rooms, 2 suites and 16 houses), a wine cellar for the production of exclusive brand wines and a restaurant to serve them.

The property, however, hasn’t lost its predominantly rural and agricultural “soul,” keeping the cattle production, oats, olive oil and wine, and integrating a new organic three hectares’ garden, in which grow vegetables, fruits, and herbs used in the restaurant and in the hotel shop ESTATE_SAO_LOURENCO_BARROCAL_AERIAL_VIEW

The unique "family resort" has a large range of activities for guests and visitors, such as biking along the Alqueva, hiking, wine tasting, picnic programs, and others. When you arrive at this traditional village you are welcomed and treated like "one of the family", the Portuguese way.
