July 06, 2016
Pousadas de Portugal welcomes the arrival of warm weather with ice cream with the traditional flavors of convent sweets. A limited edition, only available during Summer months, exclusively at Pousadas de Portugal restaurants - the largest Portuguese cuisine restaurant group.
Throughout the country, twelve Pousadas de Portugal offer their most local desserts in a unique and refreshing way, tied to the flavors of typical regional sweets.
In the North and Central regions, Pousada Mosteiro de Amares highlights the region's famous and juicy citrus fruit by presenting the Amares Orange Ice Cream at the time of its greatest splendor. Pousada Mosteiro de Guimarães offers the flavors of Toucinho do céu, delivering a traditional Northern-style recipe in an unforgettable dessert. Pousada da Ria, (inevitably) offers a delicious Ice Cream made with Aveiro 'ovos moles'.
This initiative challenges sweet tooths to experience traditional flavors in an unusual way: for instance, Pousada de Viseu surprises you with a Tigelada da Beira Ice Cream and an Castanha de Ovos Ice Cream, while Pousada da Serra da Estrela presents you with a delicious ice cream made of highland cottage cheese with walnuts. Pousada Castelo de Óbidos reinvents time-honored flavors and presents a mouth-watering ice cream made of 'trouxas de ovos' and 'brisas do lis,' traditional sweets in the Castle's village.
In Alentejo, Pousada Castelo de Alcácer invites you to try a Sericá Ice Cream with Elvas Plum, while Pousada Convento de Arraiolos ventures a combination of sweet and salty, a perfect fusion resulting in a delicious Toucinho de Arraiolos Ice Cream. Pousada Convento de Évora offers an irresistible Encharcada Ice Cream and Pousada Convento de Beja reinvents the sweet Golden Soup dessert, while Pousada Mosteiro do Crato is proud to serve you a refreshing version of the famous Tecolameco. And in the Algarve, Pousada Convento de Tavira presents you with the famous dessert made of sugar, eggs, black-seed squash jam and almonds: the Morgado do Algarve Ice Cream.
Pousadas de Portugal are nestled in real Monasteries and Convents, true testimonies of the history of these sweets. Known for their service, the quality of a rich and varied cuisine and their exquisite settings, Pousadas de Portugal restaurants present several events throughout the year with suggestions that combine two of the most important Portuguese treasures: gastronomy and heritage. These restaurants offer you the finest regional cuisine in idyllic and authentic settings, taking you on a journey to Portuguese tradition and culture.
