A House will take Portuguese architecture to the whole world
August 30, 2016
In spring 2017, a major international exhibition marks the opening of the new "Casa da Arquitetura"- House of Architecture, in the former home of Alvaro Siza in Leixoes.
It was a fishing ground and forest preserves and is now the celebration of architecture and design, as can be seen from far in the beautiful Cruise terminal building of the Port of Leixões. Th House of Architecture, equipped with sophisticated equipment and specialized personnel, will be a platform to store, process, investigate and show the world the work of design professionals.
The work is still in the construction phase but there is an ongoing process that will transform the old warehouse into a sophisticated laboratory. As soon as there are conditions in place, begin the installation of equipment to treat, preserve and maintain projects and models under appropriate conditions.
They are already in the queue waiting for the opening of the House and many models, including the original tea house and pools of Alvaro Siza submitted to the Matosinhos City Hall for approval in the 1960s.
In all, the house will have 4,700 square meters of exhibition space (with an auditorium), library, bookstore and shop.

What are the potential benefits of this new facility for the local and global architecture and design community?
