See all of Portugal in one place - welcome to Portugal dos Pequenitos
August 17, 2016
Could you see every major monument and traditional house style in just one place in Portugal? And top it off with ice cream? Yes, you can! At Coimbra's Portugal dos Pequenitos - a 75-year old park that celebrates Portuguese history, architecture and monuments, but on a smaller scale. The park opened in 1940 as the idea of physician Bissaya Barreto and designed by architect Cassiano Branco. At first it was a child-size collection of regional houses from around Portugal for kids to explore, then came the monuments of Portugal on a kids scale, and lastly - museum for the nations of the Portuguese speaking world. And there are also museums of Costume, Navy and Furniture.
Today it is a fun look at Portuguese architecture and history - a great place to spend the afternoon - across the river from one of Portugal's most historic cities.
