Algarve sees a big jump in guests and bookings this summer

The  Algarve recorded about three million overnight stays in August, which represents 0.7 percent more compared to the same month last year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). 


Preliminary results of the first eight months of the year show a growing demand for the destination by foreigners. Of the 13 million overnight stays accumulated between January and August in the region (+8.0 percent), 10 million refer to overnight stays of foreign tourists, one million overnight stays more than in the same period last year (+11.7 percent ).
 
According to INE, in August the number of guests in hotels in the Algarve stood at 588,000 (-0.7 percent), compared to the same month last year, while in the period from January to August there were 2 8 million guests (+ 9.1%). As for total revenue, grew 10.7 percent in August to more than EUR 193 million, the accumulated value since the beginning of the year was about 562 million euros (+17.8 percent).
