How to find Lisbon's lost walls

The Cerca Velha, that surrounded and defended Lisbon in medieval times, is recreated in a new signed route that passes through Alfama, Castelo and Se.

Based on a historical and archaeological research carried out by the Museum of Archaeology Lisbon and the Centro de Arqueologia de Lisboa, the route of the old wall can now be found on a footpath signposted through the streets of the Alfama. with 16 informative signs placed in a circular path between the Rua do Chão da Feira and Rua do Milagre de Santo António, guide the discovery of one of the oldest areas of the city through the medieval defensive system that lasted until the construction of the wall of king D. Fernando I ( 1373-1375).
