Lisbon's Thieves' Fair (Feira da Ladra) will steal your heart

Portugal's Feira da Ladra (Thieves' Fair) is better than the name implies. It the big flea market in the city of Lisbon.

Dating back to the 13th century, the Feira da Ladra has moved from place to place until settling in the Campo de Santa Clara, in the historic neighborhood of  São Vicente de Fora. Today the bustling fair  is mainly about the trade of traditional goods, second-hand finds and handicrafts.

It is held weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays, from morning to afternoon. Look for some great Portuguese vintage clothes, antiques and lots of crafts and foods.

Th market started near the Castle of São Jorge around 1272, and later moved to Rossio. In 1552 report by the city, the Fair in the Rossio is mentioned. In 1610 the name Feira da Ladra appears as the official name. It stuck!
