Airlines are Adding Service to “Europe’s Best Destination for 2017” -

Portugal, which was recently named Europe’s Best Destination” at the 2017 World Travel Awards, is getting more flights from the United States next summer.
The two biggest US airlines are adding three new routes to Portugal for 2018. United Airlines is adding seasonal service from its Newark hub to Porto. While Delta Air Lines is adding a Lisbon flight to its Atlanta hub, and a new flight to the Azores from its New York JFK hub.
The United Newark-Porto route will begin on May 4, 2018, and be offered through October. The daily non-stop flight will be operated with a Boeing 757 and compliment their service to Lisbon from Newark and Washington, DC.
Delta is adding two new routes to Portugal from May 24, 2018 through September. Delta will offer non-stop service from New York JFK to Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island, Azores, and a new daily nonstop from Atlanta to Lisbon. Both flights will be operated by 767 aircraft.
TAP Air Portugal, the nation carrier, is expected to announce new service soon also. TAP has a fleet of 53 new Airbus aircraft on order and will be the launch carrier for the A330neo which will begin delivery in the first half of 2018. TAP has doubled its traffic from the USA in the last year, with new service from New York’s JFK, Boston’s Logan and, this year, from Toronto Pearson International.
