Lisbon’s Ponte 25 de Abril, is one of the most beautiful bridges in the world. But it just got cooler. Set in Alcântara on the Avenida da Índia, Lisbon’s newest attraction is the Experiência Pilar 7 – Centro Interpretativo da Ponte 25 de Abril (Pillar 7 Experience – Ponte 25 de Abril Interpretive Centre). See the bridge as you’ve never seen it before, through the construction and with an elevator ride to a panoramic viewing platform located about 80 metres above the river and offering unique views of the city, and of Belém and the River Tejo in particular.
The experience continues on entering Pilar 7, where homage is paid to all those who helped build the bridge. Here there are 360-degree projections of the bridge as it was under construction and four short films showing the work and its scale On arriving at the top of the platform, visitors can examine the main cable anchors holding the bridge up, as well as feeling, sensing and seeing the approaching trains as they cross the two sides of the river. This is followed by a suspended staircase that opens into another room in which a set of mirrors above and below offer sight of the depth of Pilar 7’s interior. The wonderful view of the city’s waterfront cannot but impress visitors as they walk along the passageway that leads to the highlight of the visit.
Located alongside the bridge’s road deck, the panoramic viewing platform is the main attraction, one that offers an experience that is the equal to those to be found in other world-renowned structures, . With the aid of virtual reality technology, visitors can also access parts of the bridge that are inaccessible to the public, including the top of the pillars.
The Pillar 7 Experience is open to visitors from 10am to 8pm each day from May to September, and until 6pm from October to April,
