Florbela Espanca: I want to love, to love heedlessly!

Florbela Espanca ( 1894 — 1930). Was the mother of the feminist movement in Portugal, whose full life shaped her poems.

Florbela's earliest known poem, A Vida e a Morte (Life and Death), was written in 1903. She was the first woman to enroll at the law school of the University of Lisbon. Her free will, and powerful verse made her one of Portugal greats 20th century poets.

I want to love, to love heedlessly!

To love for the sake of loving:  Here...there...

This one, that other and everyone...

To love!  To love! And love no one!

He who loves someone and says that love’s fire

Can last a lifetime is nothing but a liar!
