Climb aboard the luxe Presidential Train
April 20, 2018
This is no throwback Portuguese 'comboio,'nor is it the touristic yellow trolley you see around Lisbon.
The Presidential Train dates from 1890. It hosted Kings such as D. Luis I, Presidents, Heads of State and even the Pope, Paul VI. Its retirement came only in the 70's after almost a century in service to the highest figures (even Queen Elizabeth II took a ride).
A first move was to bring it back the luxurious side, keeping the original furnishing, took place in 2010, turning it into an historic exhibition piece of art.
Home-based at the Railway National Museum, in Entroncamento, it now runs again.
The train leaves the station every different season to take its passengers into more than a simple trip: a whole experience combining its interior, the sights from its windows and the food at its table.
Gold Winner for the Best World Event in 2017, the Gourmet Train Experience takes passengers to the Douro shores, hosting chefs to provide a gourmet experience on board. Last year's spring and harvest edition were successful and bookings are available for 2018 with 1, 2 or 3 days pack. Enjoy the ride!
