Serralves: Where modern art is at home in Porto

A circus, a theater, a restaurant: meet Chapitô

It could easily be missed when you walk through Lisbon's Alfama, as you explore the tiny streets, squares and churches near the castle of S. Jorge.

Chapitô is a place for artists - and its one with quite a view. Performers come to practice, perform and learn. Functioning as a school with for 33 years circus is the main idea behind Chapitô as you can tell for the tent covering the restaurant's balcony.

The colors and lights ad a special atmosphere to your dinner in the Chapitô à Mesa restaurant, where you can have great Portuguese food while watching Tejo River.

On Mondays, enjoy the roda de choro in the bar downstairs, where frequently musicians get together to a jam session.  Combining arts, culture and food, this irreverent place is already part of the neighborhood sense of self.
