Portugal takes carob ice cream to the Gelato Festival
August 03, 2018
Inspired by Mediterranean flavors, the ice cream creator Manuela Carabina mixed carob, almonds, hazelnut and fig to compete in the best Portuguese ice cream competition. Now, the women behind Fragoleto's ice cream shop in Lisbon got to represent the country in Italy.
The Gelataria, in downtown Lisbon, 3 minutes away from the Praça do Comercio, is already famous for having the best Italian ice cream in town. With vegan flavors and spicy options, they tend to mix cinnamon, ginger, honey or anise to get surprisingly good combinations.
'The Mediterranean' award winning ice cream can only be found here. The winner will take the recipe to compete in Bologna - Italy, in 2020 against other European ice creams.
A long and serious march, the competition will only end in 2021 when the winner of the best European gelato will get to participate in the finals, the The Gelato Festival World Masters.
