Rodondo: Portugal's Alentejo Pottery Town
May 18, 2020
The Alentejo town of Redondo is the pottery town you never heard of. Its bight and colorful pottery is unique, and quite charming.
The Redondo hand-made pottery is known around Portugal, with its bright floral themes and country life scenes. The clay in the region is resistant to heat, and so the pottery of Redondo is prized and rugged.
Redondo, glazed and figured earthenware (dishes, bowls, bowls) often feature natural themes, the sun, the rooster, a little house, the cork oak and the shepherd.
Redondo is also well known for its wine, being a D.O.C. region. So with wine and pottery, Redondo is well worth a visit, not to mention its historic castle, and medieval fortifications.
